Yemen coffee is one of the most unique and historically significant coffees in the world. Grown on ancient terraced farms at high elevations, it traces its roots back to the 15th century when Yemen became the first place where coffee was cultivated commercially. The port city of Mocha became so central to the coffee trade that its name is still associated with coffee today.

The coffee is typically dry-processed (natural), with cherries dried whole in the sun—often on rooftops. This traditional method, combined with the country's unique heirloom varietals and arid climate, creates a cup with intense character and complexity. Yemen coffee is known for its full body, winey acidity, and notes of dried fruit, cocoa, spices, and florals. Each cup often feels rustic, wild, and deeply layered.

Production is small-scale and labor-intensive, with beans hand-picked and processed by families using methods passed down for generations. Due to political instability and limited infrastructure, Yemen coffee is rare and expensive—but for many, its exotic flavor and rich heritage make it one of the most treasured coffees in the world.
